CUBAN HEELS (NL)
Fans of the ultimate, raw garage blues have had to wait a long time for the new Cuban Heels album. However, it was more than worth the wait, because with “Gritbag” the band probably delivers its best, most varied album ever. Everything seemed to fall into place when Mischa den Haring took over the guitar from Rico Gerfen. With this new start, the garage blues monster continues to exist and is more alive than ever. Cuban Heels remains a unique band in the Dutch blues scene and far beyond.
The previous three albums were already bursting at the seams with blues grooves, pre-war gospel and pounding funky swamp rock, but “Gritbag” shows a band that is performing at the top of its ability after more than ten years. In addition to the well-known old blues and soul heroes, the album shows influences from The Black Keys, Tom Waits and North Mississippi All Stars. The inspiration and urgency that can be heard on this record proves once again that Cuban Heels is one of the best garage blues bands in the Netherlands.
In recent years, the band has grown into a true sensation on the live circuit in Europe. With impressive performances at festivals such as North Sea Jazz, Bospop, Moulin Blues, Belgian Rhythm & Blues Festival, Dijkpop, Bluesfestival Antwerp and countless clubs in the Netherlands, Belgium and France, they have proven their strength as one of the best live blues bands.
